Pymatuning
Earthquake Data
Your job is to prepare an intensity map of the Pymatuning Earthquake. To
do this you should print the observation station map (printable
map), then go to the Pymatuning Data page and estimate the
intensity for each of the observation points, shown as red dots. Then,
write your intensity estimate beside each of the observation points
and draw intensity zones similar to what you saw on the San Fernando
intensity map.
You
should hand-in a neat intensity map and write two or three very clear
sentences that compare the size of the intensity zones for the Pymatuning
Earthquake (magnitude 5.2) with the intensity zones of the San Fernando
Earthquake (magnitude 6.6). Based upon what you see in these maps does
the crust in the eastern United States transmit vibrations less or more
effectively than the crust in California?
